N.V.H. Magazine Shannon Lark Interview

Shannon Lark

NVH Magazine Scream Queen Interview

1. Doc:

Hello, Shannon! How are you today? Good I hope.

I'm doing fantastic! Thanks for asking.

2. Doc:

Let me start off by saying how beautiful I think you are! {And yes, I am trying to butter you up so you will come back and see us again}! I think your resume is very impressive! First off, The Living Dead Girlz dance troupe? A zombie dance troupe? Please......describe in detail!!

Ummm. WOW. Thank you!

The Living Dead Girlz is the very first zombie dance troupe in history. We are zombies, and we specialize in commercial jazz, sock hop, cha cha, tango, waltz, chair dancing, line dancing-you name it. All of our shows revolve around a theme which usually highlights on women having deep respect for themselves.

We also eat brains, rip out hearts, disembowel, throw blood on the crowd, and dance to a lot of really bad pop music. We are complete satire, making fun of ourselves while rotating the show around a story.

We are based in San Francisco and hit the 2007 Fangoria Convention circuit and released BRAINS, a parody of the SHOES video by Kelly (available on youtube.com).

We are completely self produced and work our dead little butts off to bring zombie love to the masses.:)

2008 is bringing us a tour to many major cities in the USA. More information coming soon on that!

3. Doc:

So you are called ''Sanfrancisco's Gore-Gore-Girl? '' What an honor! How does it feel?

It feels great! It's a huge honor that was given to me by Cheryl Eddy from the Guardian, a free newspaper in San Francisco.

You can check out the story here-

http://www.sfbg.com/40/03/art_film_gore.html

4. Doc:

I see you also direct and produce films as well as act in them. Jeez....is there anything you can't do?

I can't cook, sow, or fix cars.

5. Doc:

What type of film would you rather be in: horror or non-horror? I have always felt as though a person shouldn't be afraid to experiment with different things, but, should otherwise stick to what they're best at.

Hand down, I am really only into making and acting in horror films. I would be open to a black comedy or a drama with a horrific situation, or playing a character who is tormented.

I guess I would rather beg for my life than beg for some sort of romantic situation in a typical chick flick.

6. Doc:

What else do you do? Sing? Write? Are you into art?

Yes! I am currently writing a feature that I plan to shoot very soon as my directorial debut.

I don't sing, but I rap, in a band called Aural Fixation. Our first single is up on itunes called House Party. Please go check it out!

I work with several horror photographers in the bay area and have recently opened a call through the Chainsaw Mafia, my horror production company, for artwork by women in the horror genre. That includes paintings, photography, collages, and even finger puppets!

I'm a huge believer that you can be a productive artist supporting the genre and not have to be a filmmaker.

7. Doc:

I can't resist asking this: what was the film ''Retardead'' about? it sounds fairly obvious, but you never know!

Retardead (current working title) is a great b-flick co-directed by Rick Popko and Dan West. The story is about retarded zombies and an evil scientist...doing evil scientist things.

The Living Dead Girlz made an appearance where we danced, ripped a guy's face off, and ate a lot of nasty shit off the floor. It was awesome!

8. Doc:

Okay, now for the questions I ask everybody; What is your favorite horror film? Book? magazine? Oh, wait, let me guess.......mine, right?! Just kidding!

Favorite horror film is a toss up between The Shining, Dead Alive, and Santa Sangre. I know. I cheated.:)

Favorite Book is Men, Women, and Chainsaws. In it you'll find out how every man just wants to see a woman with whom they can identify with in all their manliness. Really interesting stuff!

Magazine? Fango is probably my favorite, they are great people to work with too! Cadaver Girls being a close second, which is a mag promoting women in horror.

As for your book...I'm getting to that. Totally looking forward to it!

9. Doc:

Do you have any projects in the works right now? Any future projects you wanna tell us about?

Of course! I am writing a feature length script about a female serial killer which I plan to shoot sometime in the year.

I am booking a tour for the Living Dead Girlz, and opening a retail store for horror lovers and filmmakers on thechainsawmafia.com. The store should be open in the next month! We are really excited!

TCM will also be coming out with a DVD of the 2007 festival winners of VISCERA, a women directed/produced film festival I direct.

Well, I wanna thank you for being here, and I sincerely hope you will come back again. Okay?

Yes. Yes. And yes! Love the magazine and seeing people supporting the horror genre. I will most certainly be back.
