While horror is viewed here as a legitimate and perfectly sane form of entertainment, it also performs a service. Apart from being cathartic for the filmmakers and other artists, the genre is also socially conscious. It is the branch of art that is most reflective of what is happening in our society and around the world at any given time. To truly know a community, one can simply look into what frightens it.

Here, in the Real Life Horrors section, we will explore some of the more disturbing aspects of human life. These are the horrors you may not see on screen. By raising awareness of these events, and providing further reading where possible, it is hoped that somewhere, someone will choose to become active due to understanding.
