The film is called
“Welcome to my Darkside; Women in Horror”. It is a documentary
chronicling the history of women in horror. Did I really need to elaborate
that last sentence for you? It’s ok if I did, being slow witted and
perhaps an idiot savant is nothing to be ashamed of. It helps secure
employment in the fast food and Wal-Mart chains during economic stress.

Welcome to my Darkside; Women in Horror is the brainchild of one
Reyna Young, also known to her subservient heel-licking slaves as Miss
Misery. I should know about that title because I still awaken
in fright covered yellow sweat from nightmares of her ball gags, speculums,
and mung rags. Now that I think about it, maybe that’s not
sweat after all. Let’s move on shall we?
“Women in Horror”,
as I shall shorten the title because I am lazy, will encapsulate the
history of women in horror, as I believe I said in the second paragraph.
What makes this documentary an aberrant creature within the cinematic
zoological category of documentaries is the fact that it does not just
cover the chicks in front of the camera. The film will also enlighten
audiences to those women behind the scenes in horror such as
writers, directors, and journalists. That last fact makes me wish I
had ovaries so I could be in it, but not enough to consider a transgendered
surgical process to obtain the recognition.
One message that
the film gives is that the future of horror has never been sexier! Unlike
any other age in cinema and the arts, we are witness to a creative castration
and shifting of power. Women will no longer be the lesser entities within
the sociological paradigm of horror. It will be the embodiments of testosterone
and enlarging prostates that kneel in subservience between the commanding
female thighs of cinema. For men it will be an age of tongue stamina,
breath control, and maybe a piercing or two. The age of male dominated
cinema and artistic expression is transforming into a new cycle of the
mythic Dying God. The God falls before the Goddess. It brings to mind
a quote for which I shall now recite.
“Destiny
is the will of God. And, if it is man’s destiny that he be dominated
with compassion, and understanding, so, cast out your vengeance, tonight
we have seen birth, of the planet of the apes.”
Well maybe that
would be planet of the ape chicks, or just the planet of the chicks.
Who wants kiss a hairy girl right? Maybe the hippies, liberals, and
Europeans but I am a stark supporter for Nair and Veet. Except on the
head because skinhead chicks really hold no appeal for me, and Sinead
O’Conner chic is passé.
“Welcome to my
Darkside, Women in Horror” (I am not too lazy to type now) will
feature more hot chicks in one place in horror than if you accidently
trespassed into the ladies room at a Fangoria convention. I stress “accidently”
because mix in too much whiskey and a triple dog dare and that always
spells trouble for me.
The film
will unleash the insights of Scream Queens such as Shannon Lark, Elske
McCain, April Burril, Bianca Barnett to name only a few. We shall hear
the views of horror journalistic hotties such as Dai Green, Heidi Martinuzzi,
and Sarah Fatally Yours. Horror hosts, horror radio celebrities, writers,
and filmmakers oh my, shall each offer a verbal arterial splatter of
history, opinions, and vision regarding the past, present, and future
of horror.
“Welcome to my
Darkside, Women in Horror” will be released on DVD this year and
that’s 2009 for those with calendrical disorders. I would caress my
crystal balls and enlighten you unto further details on the documentary
but let’s allow Reyna Young to do that. That would be talk about her
film, and not rub my balls. Well…unless she really wants
to but hey, let’s talk about the film!
Necromagickal: First
and foremost, enlighten those who are not paying attention and hiding
their heads in the sands of an elderly retirement nude beach/fat camp
about this new documentary you are working on?
Reyna: "Welcome
to my Darkside Women in Horror Documentary is about Women in the Horror
Industry. What they go through in a male dominated genre and how they
feel about horror and the future of horror. I basically wanted to show
the world our future in Horror and I tell you it's looking pretty damn
good to me. Not only do we have tons of hot babes but, they are all
also very talented and I guarantee they are all sick and twisted in
one way or another.

Necromagickal: “Welcome
To My Darkside: Women in Horror” is receiving an enormous amount of
press. Has this exposure changed your life in terms of finding horny
horror nerds stalking you, asking for autographs in unnatural places,
and requesting Miss Misery panties? (For their girlfriend of course)
Reyna: Wow I have actually
had a guy ask how much for one of my thongs. LOL-It was funny and gross
at the same time. I am signing at least 5 to 6 autographs a month. I
am getting tons of press on this like there is no tomorrow so it is
very over whelming but great and I love. I did have a stalker for a
while calling me and telling me he loves me and wants me and crap like
that. I threatened him and he stopped so no word from him lately. HEHE!!
The exposure has changed my life though, I am getting more and more
noticed each day by people and e-mails and it's just wonderful. I love
it!
Necromagickal: Gaining
insight from so many horror chicks is akin to gouging out their eyes
and making Scream Queen beer goggles. Has being exposed to so many disembodied
experiences altered your perceptions on horror?
Reyna: LOL No it's been
good! I have had the pleasure of talking to so many women that it's
hard to take in so much at once but my god there are so many women out
there in this genre I didn't even know about and i am so happy they
are coming forward and telling their stories and sharing with me, it's
great when we Hard core sicko's stick together.
Necromagickal: The film
does not just chronicle women in front of the camera but behind it as
well. You will be covering writers, directors, and even genre journalists.
What inspired you to include all of these roles in the documentary?

Reyna: Well for this
Documentary I wanted to be different. I wanted to not just focus on
the Scream Queen thing but what about all the women behind the camera
or the horror photographers, models, journalists. They need some loving
too you know. I mean don't get me wrong I do focus on the actress in
this doc but I wanted to give a lot of credit to the women who do everything
else too! I feel that they don't get enough credit and they deserve
the spotlight as well. Being a Director myself I would have jumped at
this opportunity if it wasn't my project just because WOW! Somebody
wants to hear from me and about my directing. That's why I wanted to
focus on all the females. There’s more to horror then just Scream
Queens....

Necromagickal: You are
covering a broad (no pun intended) spectrum of women in horror. Was
it difficult to pick and choose whom you wanted included or did it simply
involve bribes, darts, and an issue of Fangoria?
Reyna: Great Question!!!
You are good!!!!
I know a lot of the Women already
from having them on my show or meeting them at conventions. So that
wasn't hard. The difficult part though was finding outside the actress
range. Finding Director's or FX artists, or Photographers. That was
the tough part and it took research and connections and just trying
to get the women I knew would be great for this. Now I have about 35
Women and a wonderful cast of Women! I couldn't ask for anything more.
I cannot wait till this Documentary comes out. This has been so much
fun so far to do and I'm sure it will continue to be fun!
Necromagickal: You were
sitting around the caverns of Last Doorway Productions beating your
slaves into submission. One day beneath all the naked man whores you
came up with the idea for this film. What was the original genesis for
the project? Unless it was simply the man whores…
Reyna: LOL- well besides
whipping my man whores because that's what I like to do when I need
a new idea!
I have had the idea for this
in my head now for a while but didn't know how to go about it because
I’ve never done a documentary before so I was stuck a little bit on
how to get started. When I finally said screw it I better jump at those
now I one day just started to e-mail the Women and letting them know
what I was doing and planning and they all started to agree. After that
I then stared to jot down questions until I had so many I had to narrow
it down. Then I would e-mail the questions to each girl who agreed and
have them film themselves answering my questions and sending me either
the mini DV tape or DVD. Some wanted to edit it themselves which was
cool and some have put in a lot of there creativity into the interview
which if great. So far I have gotten in half of the girl's footage.
Didn't receive the other half yet! But they are coming. It was an idea
I had that I figured if I didn't jump on it now someone else would and
I would loose out!!!
Necromagickal: Do you
foresee the future of horror as being run by women in sexy business
suits with aging male writers, directors, and actors ball gagged and
curled up like dogs beneath the stiletto heels of the directors chair?
More plainly stated, where do you foresee the future of horror in terms
of women?
Reyna: All MEN WILL
BE SLAVES!!!
Just kidding!
I do see a lot more women coming
out of their tool sheds and breaking into the business with their chainsaws
and axes!!! They are making their way through slicing and dicing all
men's heads off to get to the top and they are almost there! I tell
you soon Women will be a huge part of this industry. Women will be Chocolate
factories while men play the role of oompa loompa's. (If I spelled that
right)
I do believe Women will be
of equal or more to this industry and really show what we have to offer.
Men are not the only ones with sick minds and killing tools. I mean
I sleep with an axe next to my bed for Christ sakes. I prefer an axe.
Every Woman has there own killing device of course. We will see more
female FX Artists, Directors and Producers, etc. We aren't just some
naked body to kill in a movie anymore....
Necromagickal:
Besides the possible clichéd dye jobs, breast enhancements, tighter
thongs, and perhaps some bulimia, do you perceive a difference between
contemporary Scream Queens and the moldy, dying, and dead actresses
of earlier years who had way too many cigarettes and bruised knees from
patriarchal auditions? This may be interpreted in terms of attitudes,
abilities, etc.
Reyna: Well I think
the major difference would be the setting has really changed, I mean
from looking at Women in horror form black and white days where they
would scream and faint. Now a day a woman has to be naked in order to
die. I think the whole having to have a perfect body method to be in
a horror movie is bullshit. Taking off your clothes makes the movie
is bullshit and women having to always die is bullshit!!! That’s what
sucks for young females to see all these hot chicks and think that's
how they have to look. We have gone a long way from how a scream queen
was portrayed to now which is just plain nudity. I think it's ridiculous.
Necromagickal: How do
you perceive the feminine psyche as interpreting horror different from
those with male vision? Do you feel all of the innate qualities of women
offer a deeper, more emotional, and less sexually lactating plotline
and visual philosophy?

Reyna: I believe either
being a Woman or Man you can make a great horror film. There is a difference
from what a woman thinks is horror to what a man thinks. I mean men
can write and direct a movie about a man who goes around killing women
based on he never had a date in high school. You know what I mean. That's
a common story line. But for me that's cool and all but I find rape
to be something horrifying and something I wish would never ever happen
to me or my sister or friends of mine, so i will write about it and
direct a horror flick around that topic. What I am trying to say is
a lot of horror based films are just about men killing and they are
screwed up in the head, there unbalanced, they love to kill that's all.
But with Women we have feelings and (not that men don't) base what really
scares us into the movie. There is a huge difference.
Necromagickal: We have
male actors and we have female Scream Queens. It is the latter that
seem to sell more films and brand a psychosexual mark of the beast upon
the collective retina of cinema. Do you feel that the natural erotica
and beauty of the female form is still yet a superficial stigma against
the depth of women in general?
Reyna: Well if you got
it flaunt it! I'm not overly against women being naked in movies. We
are beautiful and want to show it off, show it off with blood covered
all over and there's nothing wrong with that. I mean I have a nice body
and maybe one day I may want everyone to see me die naked in a horror
movie, who knows, right. I think it's a huge point to help sell movies,
of course, target audience is young boys. If a woman wants to be naked
then she shall be naked. I am against it being forced into a movie way
too much or its just ridiculous naked women everywhere type of thing.
Or the director or writer is just a perv and wants to see naked women.
All I'm trying to say is there is a difference between beautiful naked
women in horror movies, and naked women in horror movies just to be
there!!! You know!!
Necromagickal: What
are your thoughts on the use of nudity and overt sexuality in horror
film? Even though “sex sells” do you feel that it is a necessary
ingredient for a mass sociological appeal? Are men for example, only
enjoying a horror film when their popcorn becomes large and buttery
in their lap?
Reyna: I think if a
Woman wants to be naked in a horror film then so be it... There is nothing
wrong with nudity but when the film has boobs popping out at me every
five minutes then it's like way to much for me.. Hey you know if you
got it show it off, I would but don't over do it. I have noticed a lot
of movies these days where the nudity is just out of control. That I
do not like but some occasional nudity here and there is fine with me.
But yes men and young boys I’m sure going into a theater to watch
a horror movie these days really expects to have boobs popping out at
them. Which does prove the point that sex does sell!!!!
Necromagickal: Do you
desire to be an actress or would you prefer to remain behind the camera
commanding humans to fan you with giant Gilligan’s Isle leaves, feed
you grapes, and die on camera upon your demand?
Reyna: LOL, I'm like
so in love with your questions right now!!!
I have done acting in the past;
I started out doing commercials and independent films for my friends.
I always and wanted to be an actress but as I got older behind the camera
for me was just the best experience. If someone wanted me to be in there
movie of course I wouldn't turn it down, I would do it. I have took
acting classes and was getting myself prepared for going out there and
auditioning for movies but like I said behind the camera once i started
that I just stuck more with it... I don't mind doing both...
Necromagickal: If we
are sitting in the theater listening to Free Bird on repeat on an Ipod,
how many times would it play during the documentary? How long will the
film be and what other release details can you give?
Reyna:
Release date will be August 1st. That is what I am aiming for!! The
documentary is to be about an hour and 45 minutes with special features!!!
A trailer will be out in March
Necromagickal: Was their
any blackmail of suggestive post convention party pictures involving
large sums of alcohol, bananas, and lubed kitchen utensils involved
in gathering all of your interviews? If not, what was the process of
getting them to talk?
Reyna: Well since I
don't have too much money, each girl agreed to record themselves answering
my questions and sending me the footage to edit. All the Women involved
have been absolutely awesome. I have received a bunch of footage from
Women who have put their own twist on the interviews. I cannot wait
to show everyone who these women are, they are so beautiful and talented
and it's been so great... I will be traveling to L.A for Fangoria's
weekend of Horror's and doing some interviews for the documentary there
also. I will be there to promote and let everyone know about it... It's
been getting great buzz so far.
Necromagickal: If you
could become one actress dead or alive for 24 hours who would it be?
Reyna: I would want
to be Janet Leigh! She's so beautiful and full of life. For 24 hours
I would want to be her on the set of Psycho!!!
Now how cool would that be.
Necromagickal: Do you
feel that society has gone too far in terms of representing violence
against women in cinema? Do you feel healing and payback is still possible
once the collective of women in horror reach back and insert barbed
wire into the urethra of an aging testosterone ruled profession?
Reyna: I think sometimes
in movies the violence against women could be a bit extreme.. But it
is only a movie. Ummm I think if I had to do a movie where I was kidnapped,
repeatedly raped and then tortured I would probably not do it. LOL I
think sometimes It could be too much but it gets filmed anyway so what
can you do about it.
I mean men will get it back
too if a female was directing, or writing the film. It goes back and
forth really, but sometimes it's a bit too much and sometimes it's just
there. Men will get it soon trust!!
Necromagickal: Without
offending anyone (something I obviously strive for) and waiting for
bribery checks to clear and co-star roles to Goodfellas handshake in
as trade, what five female roles in horror cinema specifically, do you
see as being most inspirational or innovative?
Reyna: Well lets see,
Janet Leigh in Psycho, she is a great actress.
Marilyn Burns in Texas Chainsaw
Massacre, she was crazy in that movie..
Bette Davis in What ever happened
to Baby Jane. WOW!!!
Jamie Lee Curtis in Halloween,
love that movie...
and
Adrienne King in Friday the
13th....................
Necromagickal: You conduct
a lot of interviews for The Last Doorway Show so collecting interviews
for the documentary was as easy as a chloroformed post prom hotel party
date. Do you find that women respond more attentive and intelligent
to your questions because the men you interview may be too distracted
by your cleavage? What was I asking?
Reyna: I do get a lot
of cleavage starring... and then a lot of repeating myself!! LOL
I think Women are more into
the interviews because it's exciting to be interviewed. Women love attention
and men don't really care they just do there thing. I guess it's a guy
thing. Women are more fun to interview also because there into it and
they love to talk to you about them, men I have noticed seem to want
to get it done...
Necromagickal: You are
standing up at the 2009 Scream Awards accepting some spiked phallic
thing made in China for best breakout performance. What will you say,
to whom will you thank, and just where will you stick that award when
you get back home?
Reyna: Oh my god I would
be so nervous, I think!
I would like to thank God,
my family and friends for sticking by me through the years. I would
like to thank all the men I have gagged, tortured and killed to get
to this moment of my life. Thank you to all my fans and god bless. In
the words of Bob Wilkins
"Watch horror movies,
keep America strong"
Then I would try to get the
award home without breaking it because I'm sure it's made cheap and
could break easily and make room somewhere in between my monster bobble
heads to stick it.
Necromagickal: After
you have gained infamous status from the success of Welcome To My Darkside:
Women in Horror, what’s next for Reyna Young and Last Doorway Productions?
That is besides enlisting legions of man whores, leaf waivers, and bodyguards
against the panty thieves (not me...well maybe me).
Reyna: Necro I'll send
you signed panties anytime!!!
Well I'll be making a feature
film to my short film Out Of Print and also a feature to my short trilogy
films Confession. Out Of Print is going to be my female killer role
starring me of course. I won't die at all; I'll be like the next generation
of Freddy Kruger or Michael Myers but female...
I'll keep filming episodes
of my show and throw my annual Horror film fest I have every year in
San Francisco. I am going to keep going and nothing will stop me. I
am the future of Horror and I'm not going anywhere.
I would like to thank Reyna
Young for taking the time, patience, and politically incorrect tolerance
I am so famous for and doing the interview. Lest I forget to thank her
for letting me get involved in the film but enough self-promotion. For
more information on the film, go to this site. http://www.myspace.com/womeninhorror
