Victoria De Mare chews on the Chainsaw Mafia!

AnnouncementsPhotobucketl

Dubbed "Hollywood's Hottest Scream Queen" by the media, such an honored title does not come without personal sacrifice. Read on to learn just how Victoria De Mare  gets what she wants!

With crimson curls she stood within a pool of blood, one who’s red reflected in the shouldered mane hanging above. Splattered human life covered her as she stood, her exposed flesh painting a picture of beauties vengeance. The death that surrounded her was of a kind both human as well as its blackest mirrored evil of non-human. The gore of severed limbs, decapitated torsos, and blood, the blood in such large amounts, all surrounded her like a bordering dying village around a doomed lake. Human as well as non-human limbs intermingled with a severed head of a lycanthrope spoke in random piles of stranded macrocosmic chaos. It would have been a bloodshed spawned not simply from the familiar universe, but from weird alien realms that would know of something like Bio-Slime.
This surrounding death was her wrath, her utterance to the world that her strength and pure forceful desire could not be stopped. The pure severity of her will have the power to lay waste to anyone, and anything that would dare stand in her path. She stood among this carnage as its maniacal sovereignty and its queen, its scream queen! Looking skyward, one that held a moon of baneful full, she uttered a screech that would awaken the very dead from their dark silent crypts. She screamed with a demonic vibration of tone. She howled a name, her name. With the mourning melancholy of fallen angel into human cacophony “Victoria De Mare” resonated upon the cords of multiple dimensional consciousness. Whoever, and whatever still living, listened now with great interest.
Being called “Hollywood’s Hottest Scream Queen” may be a coveted title for anyone blessed by the creating deities with the beauty of the divine feminine, but it is a title that is not given just by an alchemical creation of talent and beauty. It is earned by a dedication and confidence that is driven by never-ending hard work!
The above certainly describes what crawls and festers within the brain and body of Victoria De Mare. Well maybe not the part where she lords over an empire of blood and corpses, but with lament I must confess that I do not yet know what she does once she turns the lights off. Maybe she does because she is a serious chick that won't take any shit!

Cloaked within the peppering of creative verse my point is that Victoria De Mare may be the quintessential icon for what it takes to make it in the genre of cinema. She is perhaps one of the most hard working and sleep-deprived embodiments of the Scream Queen within contemporary horror.
Victoria never stops working (and not sleeping) to seek that success and to make the world know her name. Well I was able to summon Victoria away from her never ending activities to sit with me on my crimson stained intestine filled couch to discuss some of what she is doing these days. So my chainsaw wielding fiends, I suggest you stop carving off peoples limbs and takes some of your own time to read on and become enlightened into the world of Victoria De Mare!

TCM_Necro : What originally inspired you to become an actress?

Victoria :  My natural instinct.  I began performing professionally at the age of six before I even began any training, which I started at age seven.  When I wasn't preparing for a performance or an audition, I would spend numerous hours in front of my bathroom mirror "acting out" dialogue & scenarios that I made up & sometimes scenes from some of my favorite films.  My late uncle was an Emmy nominated director who had encouraged me to follow my natural instincts.  When I was thirteen, he directed me in my first short film called Sweet Suspicion, which I also wrote.

TCM_Necro : What are you working on currently?

Victoria:  Many amazing projects!  I am currently in pre-production rehearsals on a part live action/part CG sci-fi thriller called SPARK RIDERS: Book Two Mind Games with film maker Douglas Neff & actor Joey Buttafuoco.  It is the second part of a six part series called SPARK RIDERS.  I am also currently in production on a horror feature called Halfway To Hell with director Lola Wallace & producer Tom Devlin.  I also produce & host a live episodic morning talk show on the SKY Channel called The Chat Cafe with Victoria.   I am also currently in post-production with a musical drama feature I starred in & also am producing called Loving Gram Parsons.  And, I am absolutely thrilled to be getting ready to go into pre-production with Madcat Productions & producer Tom Proctor on his upcoming series of Grindhouse features slated to begin production in March 2009.  I am also preparing to begin rehearsals with the Hart Pulse Dance Company for our winter performance in February 2009 of an all new repertoire of original pieces, and I also keep myself busy with parts, swimsuit, & lingerie modeling as well as voice over work for a variety of different formats of media.

TCM_Necro : You are multitalented in the sense that you act in film and theater, dance professionally, model, are a talk show host, producer, and writer. How do you balance a successful pursuit of so many things? Do you feel that the degree of success would be greater if you lessened your creative focus?

Victoria : Well, thank you!  Yes, I also act in television productions as well & not just film & theater.  My writing has been very specifically poetry, short stories, & monologues except for the short film I wrote as a child I mentioned earlier.  I balance a successful pursuit of so many "things" because they are all my work & my professions & I do them all the time by keeping a very tight schedule! :)  No, I don't think the degree of success would be greater if I lessened my creative focus.  My creative focus is razor sharp.  I do all that I do because I can & I just can't get enough.  It is who I am & who I have always been since childhood.  The only difference now is that I make a living at it. :)

TCM_Necro :  If you had to choose only one creative pursuit out of your extensive resume, what would it be?

Victoria :  I could never choose.  I will do it all until someone is wiping the drool off my face that has run down my chin into my lap in my wheelchair. :)

TCM_Necro: You have a great deal of films pending release. What can you tell us about these upcoming films?

Photobucket

Victoria: Yes, I am psyched! :)  Most of them are of the horror/thriller/sci-fi genre & will be available worldwide on DVD & three of them are pending a limited nationwide theatrical release domestically here in the US, so get ready for world domination! :)  Some titles to keep your eyes peeled for are Bio Slime, Stolen Moments of September, Deadly Beloved, The God Project, & Tic.

TCM_Necro: Presently you may be best known for the film “Werewolf in a Women’s Prison”. What was your best experience about that film?

Photobucket

Photobucket

Victoria : Ah, yes, Werewolf In A Women's Prison, this generations cult classic! :)  My best experience of working on this film was working with Jeff Leroy & Vincent Bilancio.  Both of which I have known for almost six years now & had worked with before prior to working on this project.  I have had some of the best times I have ever had working on a feature working on a Jeff Leroy film.  Never a dull moment! :)

TCM_Necro : Has or does anyone inspire you as an actress?

Victoria : Yes, my late uncle inspired me & my memories of working with him still do.  I am also very inspired by some of my favorite actors including Gary Oldman, Joaquin Phoenix, Daniel Day-Lewis, Javier Bardem, Cate Blanchett, Juliette Lewis, & Emma Thompson just to name a few.

TCM_Necro: What is involved with your taking on a role in a film? Do you just need a well-written script or character or is it something more deeply intuitive about the overall feel of the project?

Victoria : It is really an overall process in taking on a role in a film for me.  I look for characters to continue to expand my range.  I think typecasting is boring & generic, so I don't ever want to fall into or be stuck in a "type".  That just isn't what acting is to me.  I love stories & creative characters & continue to look for an eclectic variety of roles to play.  Also, more than ever, it is of major importance to me who is also working on the production.

TCM_Necro : What would be your dream role?

Victoria : I have two dream roles, actually.  They are both based on real artists who were extremely influential in the entertainment business & are no longer living.  One project is actually currently in development right now, so I don't want to give too much away at the moment. :)

TCM_Necro: Where do you foresee yourself in five or ten years? Do you see yourself in front or behind the camera, or both?

Victoria :  In five years, I see myself as one of the most powerful actors in the business-Tom Cruise, Will Smith, & Julia Roberts combined.  In ten years, I see myself having appeared on the cover of the top 100 most popular magazines in the world & have crossed off & accomplished every goal on my list in what I call my "focus journal". :)  I see myself remaining both in front of the camera & behind the camera in a producer capacity.

TCM_Necro : Do you feel that the title and role of the Scream Queen limits the ability to either be taken serious as an actress or typecasts you into one genre?

Photobucket

Victoria: No!  Absolutely not!  Achieving "Hollywood's Hottest Scream Queen" status is an accomplishment I am both proud of & honored by.  I am taken seriously as an actress every day of my life & I have thankfully never been "typecast".  As I was saying earlier, I am against that.  I continued to work in the horror genre because I love horror films including thrillers & science fiction.  It has always been my favorite genre as a child.  But, I work on all genres of films too including dramas, comedies, & musicals.  I will continue to work in all genres my entire career with horror always being my favorite. :)

TCM_Necro: To continue that subject thread, what are your thoughts on the evolving role of the feminine in the horror genre?

Victoria:  I think that women play the pivotal role in horror films.  Women in horror is like mac & cheese.  You just don't want one without the other.  And, if you do, it will be bland as hell! :)

TCM_Necro : What are your perceptions on women and nudity in the profession?

Photobucket

Victoria : Well, I certainly can't speak for other women & their ideas & perceptions, but in my opinion there is nudity in life, so therefore there is nudity in many screenplays.  Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be balanced between male nudity & female nudity, but I think that is probably simply because there are more male screenwriters than there are female & the guys writing these stories probably wanted to see a nude woman in the scene they were creating more than a nude man.  But, for me as a female actor, I was attracted to the roles that required nudity in the beginning of my career simply because they paid more & I was comfortable with my body knowing that I would never do anything on camera that would embarrass myself or my mom.  I think if a women is comfortable with portraying a character that appears nude than they should go for it.

TCM_Necro : What five horror films do you wish to take to the grave?

Victoria : The Exorcist, Friday the 13th, Halloween, Nightmare on Elm Street, & Werewolf In A Women's Prison! :)

TCM_Necro: If you could be one fictional horror character for 24 hours who would it be and what would you do?

Victoria:  Linda Blair's character "Regan" in The Exorcist.  I would love to be able to spin my head around & around & spew pea soup looking vomit on anyone who came near me! :)

TCM_Necro : Do you ever miss living in New York compared to Hollywood? Do you have much family back East?

Photobucket

Victoria:  I miss living in New York City every single day that I have been living in Hollywood for the past several years.  My entire family is back East & I go visit them every chance I get.

TCM_Necro : Being called “The hottest Scream Queen” is quite a title. With so much competition in the industry for that title, do you find your relationships with other Scream Queens are friendly or predatory?

Photobucket

Victoria: I don't have any relationships with other Scream Queens really.  Not because I am trying to avoid any of them or that I feel predatory at all, but it has just worked out that way.

TCM_Necro : Where is the best place to keep up to date on what you are working on?

Victoria :  Go to my website: http://www.screamqueendemare.com  IMDb.com is another place you can get information as well, but it is not always completely up to date.  Sometimes it takes a couple of weeks or couple of months to update.  I am currently missing 12 credits from my list on that site.

TCM_Necro : What’s next for Victoria De Mare?

Victoria :  I have been working a six to seven day a week schedule with sometimes multiple shoots in one day for 16 months straight now, so I am looking forward to resting a bit over the holidays coming up.  The thought of having just two or three consecutive days off would be awesome to have a bit of a breather!  I am also seriously looking forward to the release of the winter issue this month of Girls & Corpses Magazine, which I will appear in totaling 8 nationally distributed magazines in the US & Canada in 2008 alone.

TCM_Necro : Any last words for our readers?

Victoria : Hard work plus perseverance equals Success!!!  I would also like to thank Aine Leicht for being my ambassador of "quan" & you for your continued support & a wonderful interview!  HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!
