Welcome my chainsaw swinging enthusiasts to another featured artist
within the disemboweled body of the Chainsaw Mafia. This month we are
pleased to feature the art of Brian Allen and Lipstick Teeth! The art
of Brian need no words to fluff its wonder and dark beauty; the pieces
speak for themselves! So without further delay I offer you entrance
into the mind that is responsible for the creations you will be
viewing; Brian Allen...

TCM_Necro: On the verge of posing you with a broad question, allow me to ask what inspires your art and creativity?
Brian:
Misfortune and absurdity within our lives and world, whether it be
viewed in a comedic sense or it’s dark opposite. The creativity can
vary in meaning considering the the subject matter of individual
pieces, whether or not you find some to be visually stimulating,
meaningful, or a piece of shit has little to do with me. But the
tendency to lean toward the stranger side of life as a choice medium
for creativity has always held my attention. A pulse within me that
must be blamed on my father, being a film junkie introduced me to
several dark films at a very young age including wonderful works by
David Lynch (Eraserhead, Blue Velvet, Elephant Man), Roman Polanski’s
“The Tenant,” and of course Kubrick’s “A Clockwork Orange.” The visuals
provided in my youth had led to my endless love for the strange, dark
and macabre.
TCM_Necro: What significance does the name Lipstick Teeth have?

Brian:
The name came about a year ago; when I was in elementary school I was
subjected to several parent teacher conferences regarding sketches and
doodles done upon my homework papers. They decided to have me talk to
the school counselor a couple times a week for the remainder of my
fourth grade year. She was a very sweet and twisted lady and I remember
always feeling annoyed by the bright pink lipstick that always found
its way across her damn teeth allowing it to slowly dissolve into her
coffee with each sip. When I started this collection of work (last
year) and finally let my art be seen and public, someone wrote me a
letter telling me that I was weird and that I must be on some form of
drug. Humoring the suggestion, it reminded me so much of my young years
in school that I had to immortalize my lovely counselor’s mouth.
TCM_Necro: What are your ultimate aspirations as an artist?

Brian:
I truly would love to contribute to the genres and people that I love.
I would love to travel and gather new inspirations within my element. I
thrive on one day being able to project the same emotions I have
received from so many great artists that have inspired me through the
years, and if nothing else be able to obtain it for myself through my
work.
TCM_Necro: What has been the strangest piece you have been requested to create?
Brian:
That is tough to say, no one has really stuck me with anything that
unusual, I’m usually the one to make an off the wall suggestion that
gets shot down for the most part when it’s pertaining to what they want
to hang in their home. I did however get asked a lot as a kid to create
soft core porn comics by my classmates who didn’t take the time to look
hard enough for their parent’s copy of “The Joy of Sex,” but that was a
fairly profitable gig at the time I must say.
TCM_Necro: Will you expand your medium into more dimensions or will you stick with painting?

Brian:
I have worked with several different mediums through the years; my
Grandmother was an artist, and with my parents joint custody it left me
so much free time growing up at her house sculpting, painting, drawing,
writing, everything… but as for Lipstick Teeth I believe that it will
expand and its always exciting to try new things and test it out.
TCM_Necro: Do you have any special rituals or aesthetic mood requirements when you are working?

Brian:
First I warm up a cup of water, minced garlic and honey and down it
with coffee. I then mute a porn, turn on a book-on-tape about gardening
and do push-ups.. I then shave my legs while saying the Lord’s Prayer.
I then spend about an hour yelling into my fish tank about pollution,
and then I tell the first person I see from my balcony that I love
them. Then I am ready…Actually I just utilize my free time towards my
art, I tend to be less productive when I haven’t been outside or become
reclusive, but I can paint under most circumstances regardless of my
mood, all of the moods change a piece or work one way of another. By
the way I wasn’t trying to mock the question I was attempting to be
more interesting than I am.

TCM_Necro:
What is the most difficult aspect you face when working on a piece? For
example, do you find working with the reality of portraits more
difficult than with the freedom of the unreal?
Brian: It really
doesn’t matter challenges in my work are more than welcome and I
personally find them exciting. The only thing that can get a bit trying
is when I have to paint something that is completely out of what I
enjoy. (Example: A Hockey Player or anything sports related) I have
done them for people but find that my lack of interest in it makes it a
real chore to produce.
TCM_Necro: Do you have a favorite piece?

Brian:
I really don’t, I personally can’t stand looking at some of my
paintings when I am forced to at my apartment sitting around. I have to
be away from them for some time to actually appreciate them or truly
judge them; I have to come back to them as if I was someone else
viewing my work. I always want to start something new and am on to the
next thing.
TCM_Necro: Have you done any work for anyone famous you can mention?

Brian:
No, I came very close and believe I still have the opportunity
available it’s just a huge, huge project. My sister works in L.A. as a
personal assistant for Omar Salah (president of Castle Rock
Entertainment) He is a great guy and a real fan, he also is personal
friends with David Lynch, he has proposed me to paint something for
David and that he would send it to him personally (avoiding all the
people bullshit to get to him at his ranch) But have yet to take
advantage of this gem of a task for Mr. David Lynch.
TCM_Necro: What five horror films do you wish to be burned or buried with?
Brian: The Evil Dead
The Shining
The Haunting (original)
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (original)
Dead Alive
This is the toughest question yet! There are several more films in mind!
TCM_Necro: Where may we find your work?
Brian: http://www.lipstickteeth.com or http://www.myspace.com/lipstickteeth
TCM_Necro: What’s in the future for Brian Allen and Lipstick Teeth?
Brian:
It’s hard to say, this is a real passion and always has been, I have
had to make very strong and hard choices to continue it as the priority
in my life and that is where it will stay. I hope to continue to be
involved with such groups as “The Chainsaw Mafia,” and will continue to
make my loved ones question whom I am. But this is only the beginning…
TCM_Necro: Any last words for our readers?

Brian: Stay Hydrated
Carnal
Cadaverous and The Chainsaw Mafia would like to thank Brian for not
just being our featured artist of the month, but for being brave enough
to take the time out and visit us within our crimson stained chambers.
